iBackup 7.2

iBackup Editor's Review

iBackup is a powerful tool that allows you to backup your Mac's settings and files.

It has also built in a restore engine which allows you to restore pretty quickly your settings and files. The restore engine besides the backup engine makes this application a complete solution for this kind of activities.

The first thing that I did after installing this application was to test how it backups my system. Since there was an amount of approximatively 2 GB of data, the backup went a little slowly. At the end of the operation I had all my settings saved into the backup folder, ready to be written on a DVD or placed somewhere safe.

I liked the fact that I could easily pick what kind of settings and data files from applications I want to backup. You can see the supported applications in the screenshots that I took during the testing.

I like about this application the fact that I can easily switch between the backup categories. I could pick very fast which settings or files should the application place in the backup folder.

Depending on the size of your backup data the restoring process works quite well and you can to restore all your lost data.

Pluses: it is free for home users, it has a powerful backup built in engine and also a powerful restoring engine.

Drawbacks / flaws: it was a little slow during the tests and it was slowing down other running applications.

In conclusion: a pretty good backup tool with a bright thing for the home user: it is free. For commercial use you have to contact the producer at this email address: iBackup@grapefruit.ch.
